A Thought from Dave

February 3, 2012

"Make me know Your ways, O LORD; Teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth and teach me, For You are the God of my salvation; For You I wait all the day." Psalm 25:4-5

Why do you read the Bible?  I have heard many reasons, as I am sure you have too.  They seem to range from "it's got nice things in it" all the way to "it is God's Word."  When I read Psalm 25 this morning I was once again reminded why David is referred to as a "Man after God's own heart."  He had such a desire to know God's ways; "make me…teach me…lead me…teach me."  David loved God and wanted to learn everything he could from the Lord.  Next I was in Jeremiah 36.  This told the account of the Words of the Lord as told to Jeremiah which were dictated to his recording secretary and written on a scroll.  When this was read to King Jehoiakim, he cut it with a knife and threw it in the fire to be destroyed.  In comparing the hearts of the two kings, David and Jehoiakim, there is a clear distinction.  One had a heart to know God and the other a heart desiring no God.

Oh Lord, thank you for your Word.  Please examine my heart and may you find in me a heart's desire to know You more and more.

"Open my eyes, that I may behold Wonderful things from Your law".  Psalm 119:18
