Near the end Monday’s
reading in Joshua, Chapter 21 verse 45, it’s written :
“Not one word of all the good promises that the Lord had made to the house of Israel had failed; all came to pass.”
Am I living my life like I believe His
promises?.
Just
one week ago, my day/week started with a review of 3 weeks of Sunday sermon
notes, The
War for Humility In the Battle of the Mind. Then I proceeded
with some morning reading in a new John Piper book; his point at issue: God is
all about His glory!
Am
I living my life like I believe this?
Isaiah 14:24,
The Lord of hosts has sworn: “As I have
planned, so shall it be, and as I have
purposed, so shall it stand.” All about His glory.
So I started the day with my best mind-renewing
memory verse, fixed on humility that will bring God glory. (2 Corinthians
10:5, “We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up
against the knowledge of God, and we
are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ)
Assault one,
my helpmate reminds me I am not handling money as we have agreed, and PRIDE
JUMPS UP. Then God’s voice “. . . every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.” My wife is
really helping me love her with better money management.
Assault two,
I needed to resolve a banking issue in-branch. My PRIDE puffing up about the bank’s
over use of interest charges; and why can’t they get this right. Driving to the
branch, with Larry Wright CD playing, Give
Your Bod to God “preaching” Romans
12:2. And God’s voice repeats the Piper quote, All about His glory. Again “. . . every thought captive.” I got to the bank with a very calm and respectful
attitude.
I
explained the banking problem, interjecting that we are handling God’s money God’s
way. The banker listened carefully, and resolved the issue. He got the minor,
annoying, interest charge reversed. That was mercy (or grace) either way, God’s
glory because of the Christ-likeness of my demeanor. He even brought up the money management
approach and I got to invite him to our Good Friday service.
Lord God, remind me
always of Your humble journey to the cross, for my soul and for the Father’s
glory.
