The small group I'm in is starting Francis Chan's "You and Me Forever". We are excited about what we've heard from other believers about this book and how it has impacted their lives. There are a couple concepts just in the introduction that spurred great conversation last night and a feeling about what God could be starting to do in our own lives!
There is one passage in the introduction that I can't get out of my head. Francis writes "We have come up with action points as suggestions, but we don't pretend to know exactly how God is calling you to respond. If you want to know exactly what you should do, the best answer we can give is: something! While we cannot possible know the next step for you, we can guarantee there is one. The worst thing you can do is nothing.
"But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. (James 1:22)
How many of us are waiting for the perfect "calling" to serve? Or that serving opportunity that perfectly fits our schedule, our comfort zone, our "idea" of God's calling? Oh that's me! I'm a big schedule guy and I like things organized and neat. I could be wrong here but I'm betting that serving God is sometimes messy and off schedule. I agree with you Francis, the worst thing you can do is nothing.
