Heart of Prayer

“…And Abram listened to the voice of Sarai.”   Genesis 16:2

Genesis 16:2 says “…Sarai, Abram’s wife had born him no children…”  Sarai had been childless for 10 years and since it was a custom of the day, she could get a child by using her own maid servant.  So, “Sarai took Hagar the Egyptian, her maid, and gave her to her husband Abram as his wife,” Gen 16:3.  Scripture does not record Abram seeking the Lord’s guidance regarding the situation; it just says that he “listened to the voice of Sarai.”  I know much could be said about this whole incident but suffice to say his first flinch should have been to seek the Lord.  I know that sounds like a very judgmental statement, but just as it should have been true for Abraham back then, the same thing is true for me today.  When faced with a decision my first response should be, seek God.  What would He have me do?

I am sure there are more times then I care to admit, I have made a decision without first seeking the Lord in prayer.  Job 8:5 says “if you would earnestly seek God and make your supplication to the Almighty…” and Dan 9:3 says “…then I set my face toward the Lord God to make request by prayer and supplication.”

Father please cause me to have a “first flinch” heart for prayer.

Dedicated to Prayer

“So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God.  There we will receive His mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it the most.”
