There are some many great things about being a follower of Jesus, and resting at the foot of the cross. One passage that kept jumping into my head this morning was in Romans Chapter 6, verse 11 which says "In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus."
Have you ever stopped to really think about that verse and what it means to be "alive to God". For me, it means without Jesus, I was actually dead to God. Scary thought. Now I'm dead to sin. This doesn't mean I don't ever sin, but sin doesn't rule my life like before.
Verse 12 says "Therefore, do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey it's even desires". Now I have a plan and a purpose to be free from sin by the power of God's Spirit in me each day. This isn't done perfectly by me because I'm still living in the flesh. But God is perfect and the work he is doing in all us is bring us to sanctification!
Verse 14 says "For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace". Sweet words for all of us as you start your day or whenever you are reading this. Jesus came so that we would be "under grace", "dead to sin but alive to God"!
You are dead (to sin). Rejoice!!
